Dermatopathology
Description:
The intent of this fellowship is to prepare individuals for careers in academic or clinical dermatopathology. The fellowship is jointly sponsored by the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine and the Department of Dermatology at the Indiana University School of Medicine. Cutaneous biopsy material is received from the four hospitals on campus (IU Health University Hospital, Wishard Memorial Hospital, Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health, and Roudebush Veterans Affairs Medical Center); consultation cases are received from physicians in Indiana and surrounding states. Access to immunohistochemical techniques, electron microscopy, and immunofluorescence is available through the Pathology Department. Abundant clinical material is available through the Dermatology Department which provides care at the four hospitals. Exposure to clinical and histopathologic material via daily sign-out, weekly teaching conferences, and attendance at local and national meetings will extend throughout the two years, as will the research experience. Faculty include five members from the Pathology and Dermatology Departments with special expertise in dermatopathology.
